U.S. U-20 WNT SHOOTS FOR WORLD CUP CROWN AGAINST GERMANY: The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team and Germany meet in the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Final in a clash of two-time champions on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Tokyo National Stadium in Japan. Live coverage of the match starts at 6:10 a.m. ET on ESPNU and ESPN3. The USA advanced past Nigeria 2-0 in Tuesday’s semifinal while Germany posted a 3-0 shutout against host Japan.

USA, GERMANY U-19/U-20 WORLD CUP FINAL HISTORY
The USA and Germany are both going for their third Women’s World Cup crown in this tournament’s history. Here is a look back at both countries’ two previous championship crowns:
• 2002 U-19 Women’s World Cup: After playing through regulation without a goal from either team, the USA’s Lindsay Tarpley scored a golden goal game-winner in the 109th minute as the U.S. won the first-ever Women’s World Cup in this age level against host Canada on Sept. 1 in front of 47,784 spectators at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, Canada.
• 2004 U-19 Women’s World Cup: Germany defeated China PR 2-0 with goals from Simone Laudehr and Melanie Behringer on Nov. 27 in Bangkok, Thailand. Behringer had the game-winning tally during Germany’s 3-1 semifinal victory against the defending champion USA, which would settle for a 3-0 win against Brazil in the third-place game.
• 2008 U-20 Women’s World Cup: The USA’s Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan scored in the 23rd and 42nd minutes, respectively, to defeat defending champion Korea DPR 2-1 on Dec. 7 in Santiago, Chile. Korea DPR’s Cha Hu Nam scored a late goal in second-half stoppage time to cut her team’s deficit to one. Leroux and Morgan combined for nine goals in the tournament, with Leroux leading all scorers with five tallies.
• 2010 U-20 Women’s World Cup: Germany blanked Nigeria 2-0 in the championship on Aug. 1 as Alexandra Popp scored what would prove to be the winning tally in the eighth minute. Osinahi Ohale of Nigeria had an own goal in stoppage time. Germany goalkeeper Almuth Schult shut out an active Nigerian side with seven saves.

2012 U-20 WORLD CUP SEMIFINAL ROUNDUP
• USA 2, Nigeria 0: Morgan Brian and Kealia Ohai each tallied their first goals of the tournament on Sept. 4 as the USA advanced to its third U-20 Women’s World Cup Final at Tokyo National Stadium. Brian scored a header in the 22nd minute and Ohai executed a slick dribble and finish in the 70th minute to clinch the match. Ohai’s insurance goal came after some excellent passing from second-half subs Chioma Ubogagu and Samantha Mewis, who assisted on the goal.
• Germany 3, Japan 0: Germany struck quickly with three goals in the game’s first 19 minutes to top host Japan at Tokyo National Stadium. Melanie Leupolz scored in the first minute, followed by tallies from Dzsenifer Marozsan in the 13th minute and Lena Lotzen in the 19th minute. Defensively, Germany has yet to concede a goal in this year’s tournament. Germany has outscored the competition 15-0, one of those shutouts being a 3-0 victory against the U.S. in the group stage.
